# Documentation

> **Key takeaways** — The Éclair CMS documentation brings together nine guides: getting started, the block editor, SEO, GEO for getting cited by AI, the AI assistant, security, updates and backups, troubleshooting, and a guide for developers. Each guide starts from what you see in the admin and ends with a FAQ.

Welcome to the Éclair CMS documentation. It has everything you need to install, use, optimize, secure and maintain your site, explained step by step, without needless jargon. Each guide starts from what you see on screen in the admin and ends with the questions we get asked most often.

## The guides in the documentation

### 🚀 Getting started

The checklist that follows installation: logo, homepage, first post, two-factor authentication. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/getting-started)

### ✍️ The block editor

The 17 blocks, the `/` command, smart paste, version history and scheduling. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/editor)

### 🔎 SEO

Live analysis, structured data, the sitemap, 301 redirects and IndexNow. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/seo)

### 🤖 GEO: getting cited by AI

`llms.txt`, a Markdown version of every page, AI bots and the GEO score. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/geo)

### ✨ The AI assistant

5-minute setup, editorial profile, real costs and safeguards. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/ai-assistant)

### 🛡️ Security

Login, data, public site: what’s protected out of the box and what you can strengthen. [Read the guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/security)

### 🔄 Updating and backing up

## Where should you start in the Éclair CMS documentation?

If Éclair isn’t installed yet, start with the [installation guide](https://eclaircms.org/en/installation): it covers the requirements, uploading the files and the wizard’s 4 questions. Two guides round out this path:

- [Install Éclair on o2switch](https://eclaircms.org/en/installation/o2switch), step by step in cPanel, from the domain to the HTTPS certificate.
- [Try Éclair on your computer](https://eclaircms.org/en/installation/local), to explore it without any hosting.

Is your site already live? Open [Getting started](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/getting-started): in about ten minutes, it will be complete, fast and SEO-friendly.

## I want to… where is it in the admin?

Here are the most common actions and exactly where to find them.

| I want to… | Where |
| --- | --- |
| Write a post | Dashboard › **Write a post** |
| Ask the AI for a post, a page or an image | **“What do you want to create today?”** field on the dashboard, or **✨ AI assistant** (`Ctrl+J`) |
| Edit a page from the site | **✏️ Edit** button, visible only when you’re logged in |
| Change the logo, color or fonts | Settings › Appearance |
| Choose the homepage | Settings › General |
| Allow or block AI | Settings › AI & GEO |
| Turn on the AI assistant | Settings › AI assistant |
| Connect Google Search Console | Settings › SEO |
| Add a link to the menu | Menus |
| Redirect an old URL | Redirects |
| Turn on two-factor authentication | My profile › Two-factor authentication |
| Download a backup | Security › Backup |

> **Editor shortcuts** — `/` inserts a block, `Ctrl+S` saves, `Ctrl+K` creates a link and `Ctrl+J` opens the AI assistant.

## Where can you find what’s new and quick answers?

The [changelog](https://eclaircms.org/en/changelog) lists everything that changes in each version of Éclair, and the [FAQ](https://eclaircms.org/en/faq) answers general questions in two sentences: price, license, hosting, migration. The source code and the original guide are also public [on GitHub](https://github.com/Jacckisback/eclair-cms), where you can report a problem or suggest an improvement.

## Questions about the documentation

### Is the documentation up to date with the latest version of Éclair?

Yes: it describes Éclair 1.2.0, the current version. Each page shows when it was last updated, and the [changelog](https://eclaircms.org/en/changelog) shows what changed.

### Do I need to know how to code to follow these guides?

No. Only the [For developers](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/developers) guide assumes some knowledge of PHP. You can follow all the others from the admin, with just your mouse.

### Is the admin available in other languages?

Yes, in 7 languages: French, English, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese. Each person picks their own in My profile.

### I can’t find the answer to my question. What should I do?

First check the [Troubleshooting](https://eclaircms.org/en/documentation/troubleshooting) guide, then write to me through the [Contact](https://eclaircms.org/en/contact) page, describing your host and the error message you see.
